ELISE’s first Open Call ended on the 1st of July 2021 and the hundreds of applications the open call received have been evaluated for their eligibility for the cascade funding. The funding is provided by the EU-funded European Network of AI Excellence Centres - ELISE, a network of artificial intelligence research hubs where the best European researchers in Machine Learning and AI work together to attract talent, foster research through collaboration, and contribute to the European industry and society.
ELISE Open Calls aim to initiate micro-projects to develop novel services and applications of AI to the challenges defined by the project stakeholders. The Open Calls are one of the tools in the ELISE toolbox contributing towards incorporating SMEs and start-ups into their machine learning ecosystem, facilitating and accelerating a broad uptake of machine learning technologies by SMEs and start-ups, as well as ensuring access to machine learning technologies and expertise. The goal is to address the high-impact societal and economic challenges using machine learning.

The beneficiaries come from 10 European countries and will implement projects in 10 different ELISE focus areas. With the support of their Scientific Advisors, they will spend the next seven months developing a novel service or application based on AI or machine learning and will receive up to 60.000 EUR ELISE grant. In addition to the funding, selected projects also get access to other resources offered by the ELISE network.
