iThermAI – Using surveillance cameras to prevent fire

May 20, 2022

Can surveillance cameras be used to prevent fire? If you ask the iThermAI team, the answer is yes!

Surveillance cameras are everywhere, on the streets and inside the buildings. As such, they are a valuable resource for early fire detection and prevention. As part of the ELISE Open Call grant, iThermAI is working on developing needed AI models which will allow them to detect smoke and flame using surveillance video streams. When mainstreamed, this solution will allow fire detection earlier than the conventional smoke detectors, contributing to saving people’s lives, preventing the fire from spreading, and saving property. The works have started in January and the first half of 2022 will be used to perfect the demo and have a product to pitch to investors and customers.

Final results of all Open Call projects will be published in the fall of 2022 – stay tuned!
